PLACE OF WORK:

Dugway Proving Ground is seeking applicants for a Meteorologist position for the Meteorology Branch, Data Sciences Division for Dugway Proving Ground, UT. Dugway Proving Ground is approximately 50 minutes from Tooele, Utah, and 90-minute drive from Salt Lake City, Utah. Salary on the announcement depicts the GS-7 step 1 through GS-12 step 10 annual salary.

This position is being advertised at the GS-7, GS-9, GS-11 and GS-12 levels. If selected at the below the GS-12 level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next level once all conditions for advancement have been met. This includes but is not limited to: 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, meeting Time-in-Grade, and having an acceptable work performance. Management may select from any level for which this position is advertised and for which the applicant is qualified. This position may also be filled via a reassignment for current, permanent Federal Army Civilians or via a Transfer for current, permanent DoD civilians.

*Job Responsibilities: *

Provides synoptic-scale, mesoscale, microscale meteorology and numerical modeling. Responsible for performing a wide variety of duties related to meteorological support of Test and Evaluation programs. Conducts briefings, prepares and issues forecasts and provides meteorological decisions that impact on the success or validity of the test data. Provides filed test data reduction, utilizing computer-processing techniques. Plans, coordinates, and implements the meteorological support functions. Prepares mission specific forecasts for lest locations and meteorological variables.

If selected below the GS-12 level, duties will be developmental in nature until you reach the full performance of the position.

*SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: *

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. In addition to meeting the basic education requirement above, you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below.

*Specialized Experience for the GS-07: *To be found qualified, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience: 1) Monitoring/gathering meteorological data to forecast to customers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of the work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

*OR*

Education substitution: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position such as: meteorology, atmospheric science, or natural science.

*OR*

Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above. Superior Academic Achievement is based on:
(1) Class Standing - Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses;
*OR*
(2) Grade-Point Average (G.P.A.) - Applicants must have a grade-point average of either (a) 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on your official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or (b) 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum.;

*Specialized Experience for the GS-9 level*: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Participating in the development of forecasts for various weather conditions and 2. Monitoring weather conditions to issue weather watches, advisories, or similar forecast guidance to customers. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree
*OR*
Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: meteorology, atmospheric science, or natural science.
*OR*
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

*Specialized Experience for the GS-11 level: * One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Modeling either microscale or mesoscale meteorological processes; and 2. Coordinating with senior meteorological professionals about support requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
*OR*
Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: meteorology, atmospheric science, or natural science.
*OR*
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

*Specialized Experience for the GS-12 level*: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1. Modeling both microscale and mesoscale meteorological processes; and 2. Consulting with interdisciplinary team about meteorological support requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
