JT4 provides engineering and technical support to multiple western test ranges for the U.S. Air Force and Navy under the Joint Range Technical Services Contract, better known as J-Tech II. We develop and maintain realistic integrated test and training environments, and prepare our nation's war-fighting aircraft, weapons systems, and air crews for today's missions and tomorrow's global challenges. Job Duties / Responsibilities A Survey Party Chief leads the day-to-day activities of a survey crew that performs technical survey duties as assigned in a field environment on a survey party or independently in performing field surveys; engaged in making plans and/or geodetic surveys for range infrastructure projects, target location, weapon impact, and engineering. Geographic Information System (GIS) / Global Positioning System (GPS) data collection and control survey projects. Employee will be responsible to perform the following functions/duties: --- Participate in planning meetings with project managers or engineers to develop the deadlines, projects, and work to be completed --- Gather field survey data through use of laser and GPS methods and check final field notes for clarity and accuracy. --- Analyze a variety of information or issues and effectively use independent judgement in interpretation of information, decision-making, problem resolution, and compliance --- Utilize automated field survey codes and equipment to collect and document survey data in accordance with project-specific requirements --- Read, analyze, and interpret engineering/construction plans and perform field survey work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches --- Work with survey crew, quality assurance, contractors, engineers, and others to plan and accomplish assignments and resolve most conflicts that arise --- Communicate effectively with managers on the progress, potential controversial matters, or far-reaching implications --- Train other crewmembers on surveying equipment --- Perform other job-related duties, as required. Other Responsibilities Each employee must read, understand, and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures, and policies pertaining to their job. Working Conditions Employee may be required to work some shift work, occasional over-night assignments, in a field environment, and at remote locations. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors; however, mainly outdoors in remote field conditions. Outdoor duties may be performed on even or uneven surfaces, which may be dry or wet. Outdoor duties may be performed on gravel, or shingled roof. Climbing stairs, ladders, towers, scaffolds and high lifts, indoors or outdoors, is required. A government vehicle is used on an as-needed basis. Grease or oil may be found on working surfaces. Requirements -- Education, Technical, and Work Experience An associate's degree in survey/engineering, or 15 years of field experience on public and private construction staking projects and 10 years of survey experience are required for this position. In addition, a Survey Party Chief must possess the following qualifications. --- Working knowledge in operating surveying equipment, including electronic theodolite total station, levels, data collector, and GPS equipment --- Knowledge of standard procedures, methods, and principles --- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. --- Ability to work at heights.
